Parent Teacher Meetings

Parent teacher meetings will be taking place next week from Monday 05/02 to Thursday 08/02.

Myself and some of the other staff have decided to use a scheduling website called to help organise times and dates for parent teacher meetings.

I have already provisionally scheduled in some meetings for parents who I already know have other PT meetings to attend to.

I ask simply that you fill in parent name followed by child's name when you sign up in the title box.

Slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If you have any problems in relation to times, please drop me an email

E.g. Homer Simpson - Bart

Please follow the link below to submit your time to sign up for a time that suits you. Please check the calendar schedule before submitting your time.

Secondary School Experience Day - Tue 6th February

Image result for grange community college

Dear parents,

Grange Community College are currently organising their annual secondary school experience. This event is open for local fifth class pupils and pupils from Belmayne ETNS have been attending it for a number of years now.

The event gives the children a taste of what secondary school is like by mixing with different pupils from other primary schools and moving around the school through the day doing fun activities.

It has been a huge success in recent years and has greatly helped the pupils get ready for the transition to a new school the following year.

Date: 6th February 2018
Time: 8:45am - 2pm
Location: Grange Community College

Other Info:
  • The pupils from fifth class will not be in Belmayne ETNS on the 6th of February
  • We ask that parents bring their children to Grange Community College for 8:45am. Myself, Shane and Gearóid will be waiting there for the children on the morning of the event.
  • If possible please pack a pen, note book and packed lunch.
  • Children will need to be collected by parents from Grange Community College at 2pm. If you are allowing your child to walk home, then please email me or Gearóid at

Boxty Recipe

Traditional Irish Potato dish from counties Cavan & Leitrim
Recipe by Helen Meaney.

1 kg potatoes
Flour (plain)

Peel all the potatoes, grate half of each potato (to ensure you don’t grate your knuckles along with the end of each potato!! 😊) and put the other half of each potato into a pot to boil.

Cover the grated potatoes in water, to ensure they don’t discolour. When the boiled potatoes are soft, drain, and mash. Place into a large bowl.

Put the oven on to pre-heat (175° Celsius).

Drain the water from the grated potatoes as much as possible (I use a sieve for this), and then drain any residual liquid by placing the potatoes into a muslin or clean cloth and squeezing until the potato mixture is as dry as possible.

Add to the mashed potatoes, with enough flour to bind the mixture, and a good pinch of salt to season. Mix until everything is well incorporated.

Generously butter a baking dish, add the potato mixture, and pat down well. Spread a little butter over the top of the mixture and bake at 175° for approximately one hour.

Allow to cool, slice into wedges that are roughly thumb width, and fry either in butter or bacon fat.

The children will present their individual projects on Wednesday and present them to other classes throughout the school. We encourage all pupils to wear the colours and/or styles of France. There will be prizes up for grabs! All the children have their set topics to research and will receive no homework until Wednesday to complete their project.
